Listening for a Sign
"There are signs in the heavens and earth, we just need to be open to them."
This is a hard time of year for many of us, and for those of us who are New Englanders we often say it’s because of the weather—really— another day in the ’40’s, no sun, and rain off and on. We are hungry for Light and a change of pace. We are hungry for a benevolent nudge from the Universe that we are on the right path or at least headed in the right direction.
I was thinking of this today when I decided to write about our intuitive 6th sense and creating the space for synchronicity to happen—I also wanted to write about my new book “Signs and Synchronicities…a Marshland Series…” So what does this have to do with the month of April, and you and me?
It has to do in part about getting out of the doldrums this time of year to use your intuitive 6th sense to point you in the right direction. If you’re wanting something different—no matter where you live or whatever the weather—using this 6th sense will help you get you there.
It’s a bit like this: Think of yourself as a radio. Is your radio set clearly to the intuitive station so you can receive the information you need when you need it, or are you just picking up static? Sometimes just a little fine tuning is all we need.
So what do you actually need to do to get your intuition, or your 6th sense open again? If you’re like most of us, it comes and goes, and we often just follow routine or complain about the static.
To tune to the right station we need to listen closely for intuitive nudges—those nudges that will get you going in the right direction and reward you with moments of synchronicity. You need to act. Synchronicities don’t always show up the way we expect, but they let you know you’re doing the right thing and that you’re connected to the Universe, to God, to something larger than yourself.
In the book “Signs and Synchronicities” we see Maeve coming up to a moment of indecision. She needs to decide something important for her, and yet she hasn’t got her intuitive channel clear and open. Knowing this, she stops what she’s doing and goes outside for a walk through the marshlands, setting her inner “radio dial” open to hear the whispers of the spirit— the clues and possible synchronicities that will help her. In a sense she’s asking God or her Higher Power for help and putting herself in a space where she can see, hear or feel in her gut what she needs to know. And so she walks and looks and listens and feels. And more…I don’t want to tell you just what she does (I’d rather have you read the book) but she creates conditions and situations where she’ll likely hear what she needs.
The way to do this is different for each one of us, and I’m writing this on Good Friday, this wk-end being the time when many of us think of death, rebirth and resurrection. Many pray, many think of the man who taught us to love not fear, and many turn on their personal intuitive sense to listen for a sign from God or the Universe. A synchronicity. When Maeve took her walk through the marshland at that moment of indecision she met a Great Blue Heron—and felt its message to her. She also turned to her “craft”—methods of divination.
What do you do when you’re not receiving signals clearly? When you feel out of touch? Can you listen for the next right thing to do? I’d like to hear—share it here if you want—

Beautiful essay about opening our intuitive 6th sense. Your character Maeve is an ideal and inspiring example of doing just that.
My personal opening is facilitated by morning breathing and movement practices, meditation and Affirmative Prayer—lots of self care!
